Kier Group Plc

For several years we have been acting for Kier Group Plc planning the relocation of its Cheltenham HQ. This has been a multi-faceted instruction, the first part involving the disposal strategy for the existing premises, the second the acquisition and development of a relocation site and the third the acquisition of short term premises whilst the design and construction of Kier’s permanent home is finalised.

Kier (formerly Moss Construction) occupied 96 Leckhampton Road, Cheltenham, a 2.1 acre site housing offices, workshops and yard for more than 30 years. In the absence of any buyers for the existing premises we assessed the alternative uses for the site. Early on a care home seemed a possibility, but subsequently with the recovery of the housing market we assessed that the site’s value would increase if a residential planning consent were obtained. Thereafter we obtained a planning consent for 33 new open market dwellings on the site which lead to its sale to Crest with a delayed completion to allow Kier to relocate.

In the meantime we acted on Kier’s behalf in acquiring a 1 acre plot at Hatherley Lane Cheltenham, with close access to Junction 11 of the M5. We advised on the design and planning of a new 25,000 sq ft office building on this site and are continuing to work with Kier in evolving a revised design to meet their changing requirements.

In the meantime Kier have relocated to temporary accommodation in Gloucester, in offices which we sourced on a short term lease to enable Crest to complete on the Leckhampton Road site.
